U.S. Customs & Border Protection Clearance Fees
Effective July 1, 2020, U.S. Customs & Border Protection (U.S. CBP) has imposed a substantial, nation-wide cost increase at airports with user-fee customs facilities.
U.S. CBP alerted airports of its proposed increase in May. Airports were expected to make a decision on accepting the cost increase with very little lead time in order to keep their existing facility open. In order to maintain the advantages that customs provides to our tenants and users, DM AIRPORTS, LTD. accepted the fee increase.
We continue to work with all other user-fee airports and corresponding congressional leaders to ensure that U.S. CBP provides a fair operating agreement in line with the cost increase.
Given the decision by U.S. CBP to increase operational costs, DM AIRPORTS, LTD. has deemed it necessary to increase its clearances fees, effective August 1, 2020. Please see below for the proposed increases:

US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the charges associated with clearing at MMU, since you are a user-fee airport?
Fees during regular hours: Based Non-Member Jet Clearance - $1,850; Transient Jets/Large Piston -$1,250; Based Single or Light Piston Engine - $37.50; Transient Single or Light Twin Piston Engine - $37.50. 2. What are the benefits of being a user-fee airport?
User-fee airports are not only unaffected by cutbacks, but are also unrestricted in their ability to book flights outside of normal business hours.
3. What are your hours of operation?
The regular office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (local time). Flights can be accommodated outside of those hours upon request.
4. How much notification is needed to request a clearance after hours?
The cutoff is 12:00pm (local time) for Monday to Friday requests. All weekend flights should be requested by 12:00pm (local time) on the Friday before the weekend. It is highly recommended that all requests be made the day before landing, with the exception of weekends as stated above. When a holiday falls on a weekend day, after hours flight request should be made prior to 12 noon on the previous business day.
5. Do we clear Customs on the CBP Ramp or the FBO?
All flights are cleared on the CBP Ramp.
6. What is the maximum capacity of people to clear on a given flight?
The maximum capacity is 20 people which includes both passengers and crew. This is a national policy and not specific to MMU.
7. Can I get a Certificate of Registration for Personal Articles & Effects Taken Abroad?
Yes. If the item has a serial number and is personally owned, it can be recorded. Hours of registration are Monday to Friday from 9:00am - 10:00am (local time) with an appointment. Exceptions are granted to this timeframe if workload allows. For an appointment, please call the on-duty CBP officer at 973.267.0302
8. How are pre-cleared flights handled?
Even though the aircraft and crew are cleared by CBP, the regulated waste is not and has to be properly discarded. MMU has a compliance agreement which allows us to dispose of the regulated waste. If you have a pre-cleared flight, please contact the Operations department at 201.522.8742, so they can meet the aircraft to retrieve and regulate waste materials for proper disposal.
9. Do I need to shut down my APU?
Effective June 15, 2011, CBP no longer requires the full shut down of certain aircraft systems. For aircraft equipped with an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) exhaust located on the fuselage 8 feet or higher from the ground, the APU may remain powered and any electrical system served by the APU (navigation, comfort, safety, etc.) may remain powered as well. For small to mid-size aircraft with an APU configured less than 8 feet off the ground, the APU will be powered down. For these aircraft a Ground Power Unit (GPU) will be acceptable. This is a national regulation and not specific to MMU.
