The state of New Jersey’s 14-day quarantine for travelers returning to the state continues to grow. However, the state has allowed certain exemptions for business travelers.

We have spoken with State Representatives to clarify this exemption. We have been advised the Business Aviation travel falls within this category.

Although the state still recommends self-isolation and quarantining for business travelers, we wanted to make sure that operators at MMU were aware of this exemption to allow for travel to return.

With the Coronavirus outbreak effecting the entire general aviation community, DM AIRPORTS, LTD., operators of Morristown Airport (MMU), is taking all proper precautions to ensure MMU is as safe and efficient as possible for all airport users, employees, tenants, vendors and more. In order to follow all necessary precautions, minor impacts on day-to-day operations may be felt.

Airport Operations:

  • Modified staffing hours of DM AIRPORTS, LTD. Airport Operations and Maintenance departments
    o In order to practice social distancing, DM is using a leaner staffing model while ensuring all essential airfield duties are being completed
  • All Operations and Maintenance personnel are following best workplace practices:
    o Avoiding close contact
    o Thoroughly washing hands throughout the day
    o Using only one vehicle during a shift and thoroughly cleaning when done
    o Only one person in a vehicle at a time

DM Administrative Staff:

  • Modified staffing hours of DM AIRPORTS, LTD. administrative offices.
    o In order to practice social distancing, DM is using a leaner staffing model while ensuring all essential airport management duties are being fulfilled.
    o Staff are working at the airport and from home on a rotating basis to minimize close contact
    o All DM Staff are available during normal business hours!

Access to Morristown Airport via Route 24 East will be impacted over the next month. Beginning Tuesday, April 7th at 1:00 PM, Exit 2B (510 East, Florham Park) will be closed for a storm water maintenance project. The project is expected to last approximately one month. Below, please find alternative routes to Morristown Airport during this construction project.

Morris County Recommended DETOUR:

Route 24 eastbound to CR 510/Columbia Turnpike eastbound detour:

  • Motorists wishing to take Route 24 eastbound to CR 510/Columbia Turnpike eastbound will be directed to continue on Route 24 eastbound
  • Take Exit 7/River Road to JFK Parkway
  • Stay in the right lane and take the exit for Rt 124 eastbound to JFK Parkway/Livingston/Millburn
  • Stay in the right lane and take the Exit for JFK Parkway/Livingston/Short Hills Mall
  • Turn right onto JFK Parkway
  • Stay right and take the ramp to Route 24 westbound/Madison/Morristown
  • Take the ramp for Exit 2A/B
  • Take Exit 2B to CR 510/Columbia Turnpike eastbound

Route 24 Eastbound Exit 2A, (510 West, Morristown) will remain open during this project. Drivers can exit at 2A for Columbia Turnpike access, but will have to make a U-Turn to head back East towards Morristown Airport. 


Alternative Route to Airport via 287 South:

Take I-287 S, S Jefferson Rd and Park Ave to Airport Rd

  • Head southwest on I-287 S
  • Take exit 39A to merge onto NJ-10 E toward Whippany
  • Turn right onto S Jefferson Rd
  • Turn left onto Cedar Knolls Rd
  • Continue onto Park Ave
  • Use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto Columbia Turnpike
  • Turn left onto Airport Rd

Signed Detour to be in Place for One Month

The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced the Route 24 eastbound ramp to Columbia Turnpike eastbound will be closed beginning tomorrow (Tuesday) for approximately one month as a storm water maintenance project begins in Florham Park

Beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, DOT’s contractor, IEW Construction Group, is scheduled to close and detour the Route 24 eastbound Exit 2B ramp to CR 510/Columbia Turnpike eastbound.

The closure will allow the contractor to repair a damaged drainage pipe underneath the roadway.

The following signed detour will be in place for approximately one month:

The Airport will be finishing the Runway 13/31 keel work that was started in October this week. We will be grooving the runway and painting final markings over three days. This work will require closures of Runway 13/31 and periodic closures of Taxiway Alpha between Taxiway Bravo and Taxiway Foxtrot. During the taxiway closure, back-taxiing will be necessary.

Runway 5-23 will remain open.

Runway 13/31 Closed – 0600L-1600L daily Wednesday, November 20th through Friday, November 22nd.

The Airport will begin to repave approximately 1,000 feet of the keel of Runway 13/31 west of Runway 5/23 on October 7th. Similar to previous keel projects at the Airport, we will be repaving the center 50 feet. This work will impact the intersection of Taxiway Alpha and Runway 13/31 requiring back-taxi on Runway 5/23. Please find the project dates and corresponding Runway and Taxiway closures below:

Phase 1
This work will entail surveying, milling, and paving the center 50 feet of Runway 13/31 from the edge of the safety area of Runway 5/23. This work will also involve the application of initial pavement markings.

Runway 13/31 Closed – 0700L-1200L October 4th for surveying.
Runway 13/31 Closed – 0600L October 7th through 1500L October 25th.
Taxiway Alpha Closed between Taxiway Bravo and Taxiway Foxtrot – – 0600L October 7th through 1500L October 25th.

Runway 5-23 will remain open.


Phase 2
After thirty (30) days, Runway 13/31 will be grooved and final pavement markings will be applied. This work is scheduled to take approximately three (3) days. These dates will be distributed once the work is scheduled.

Runway 5-23 will remain open.
