Saturday, June 10th Update

MMU is OPEN! All Runways and Taxiways are available for use. Thank you again to all of our construction crews who completed the project early and to all of our tenants and users for your patience this week. The finished phase of the Keel Section is looking good!

Friday, June 9th Update

The Paving Phase for the Keel Repair Project on Runway 5-23 has been completed. Sampling, painting and site clean-up will continue through the night.

We anticipate reopening both runways at 8AM on Saturday June 10th


Thursday, June 8th Update

The Paving Phase for the Keel Repair Project on Runway 5-23 is progressing smoothly. The first lift of asphalt was completed early this morning while the second lift is expected to be completed early tonight. The third and final lift of asphalt is expected to begin on Friday morning.

Despite the inclement weather early in the week, construction is still on schedule thanks to the hard work of our crews, including Delta Airport Consultants, Deloatch Consulting and Testing, Intercounty Paving, Tilcon and Willow Grove Trucking.


Wednesday, June 7th Update

The paving phase of the Keel Repair Project for Runway 5-23 began in the early evening on Wednesday. Work will continue through the night and into Thursday evening, weather permitting, with crews laying the first two lifts of asphalt.

On Wednesday afternoon, crews put down the first layer of asphalt tack and fabric overlay in preparation for the first lift of pavement. Despite the inclement weather on Monday and Tuesday, steady progress has been made, keeping the project on schedule.


Tuesday, June 6th Update

With the milling phase complete, crews continue to prep the surface for the paving phase of the Keel Repair Project. With Tuesday’s rain, work was focused on removing water from the milled portion of the runway and drying the surface.

Water removal and surface drying will continue overnight to allow the crew to put down the first layer of fabric overlay at 0700 Wednesday morning. Paving is expected to begin in the early evening on Wednesday following the completion of the fabric overlay.


Monday, June 5th Update

Milling was completed on the center 50-foot Keel Section of the remaining 3,000 feet of Runway 5-23. Work began at Midnight on Sunday evening and continued into the afternoon on Monday. 

With the milling process completed, crews are prepping the surface for the paving portion of the project. Paving is expected to start on Tuesday, June 6th, weather pending. Below are photos from the milling phase.
