Position Title: Airport Operations Intern – Summer 2017

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

Education Requirements: Must be a recent college graduate or a student in a Bachelor’s degree program in Aviation Management, Business, Public Administration, or related field.

Principal Responsibilities: Acting as airport management’s representative, you will assist in the enforcement of airport regulations and resolve problems/queries with established procedures and security protocols.

Principal Duties: Assist the Operations department in the following:

  • Airfield safety and security to include; identifying, preventing, and/or removing all hazards to aviation including FOD, wildlife, AOA incursions, unauthorized vehicle and pedestrian entry, and disabled aircraft.
  • Oversee airfield construction to maintain a safe and efficient operating environment.
  • Act as a liaison with Air Traffic Control, Morristown ARFF, and all responding agencies during airport emergencies.
  • Assist U. S. Customs and Border Protection and Department of Agriculture officials during international arrivals, including the disposal of regulated cargo and marshalling of aircraft.
  • Learn how to issue and record NOTAMS.
  • Process tail numbers of transient aircraft for the collection of landing fees.
  • Monitor and operate airport security cameras and gate systems.
  • Any additional projects, tasks or duties as assigned.

    Position Requirements:

Must be able to work at least 24 hours a week. Work hours are flexible between 6:00am and 11:00pm seven days a week.

Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a vehicle at all times.

Must possess good situational awareness and have the ability to multi-task.

In a normal work-day, you may be required to combine standing and walking 70%-100% of a shift; lift up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally; bend, push and pull frequently; squat, kneel, climb stairs, reach of shoulder level and lift from high/low positions occasionally.

Sensory requirements are speech to communicate with others in fluent English. Also required are vision to visually assess runway conditions, the ability to read and write in English, and hearing sufficient to listen to aircraft radios and coworkers.

Although 60% of the time is spent indoors or in a vehicle, temperatures will range from extreme cold to extreme heat. Operations Coordinators will experience prolonged exposure to sunlight, rain, sleet, snow and other elements on a regular basis. While every effort is made to ensure employee safety, employees may be exposed to petroleum products, cleaning products, animal remains, and other hazardous materials.
